3 axes

My three prototypes have a few things in common.

  1. They are used either to display or serve food.
  2. They were designed as flat cut-outs.
  3. They were produced on a three axis machine.

Salad server
A salad server is a tool that is an extension of the human arm. Well we don’t want balsamic vinegar all over our fingers do we? It is a helping hand. I have made mine look like a robot arms in a naive attempt to get children to eat some salad (or at least show an interest).

Fruit bowl
At home we have a fruit bowl and a pot of pencils together on the kitchen table. Every day for months I ate my breakfast and stared at the bowl of fruit and pot of pencils. Then one day I had the idea that you could put them pencils to work. My design is just a wooden disc with slots; you bring the pencils.

Cheeseboard
When we were shown around Met works facilities I was quite taken with the water jet cutting machine. They showed us shapes cut out of a paving slab. Can you cut through marble? Easy. It was either a cheeseboard or a headstone. I made a shape similar to a well known cracker (it’s a cheeseboard).
