One of the environmental failures of contemporary furniture manufacturing, is that so much is made to support an unreal consumer fantasy, i.e. country cottage style. Beyond the obvious deceit of this, there is a real structural problem too, both literally and environmentally.

There is an inherent fault between the material that the furniture is made from (i.e. real or fake veneered chipboard) and the methods of assembly. This is to a large extent because there is a desire to hide any evidence of fixings. If the fixings were designed so that they worked better structurally and visually, then you should be able to achieve more essential structures that also could sit happily in more environments, and therefore survive longer.

My proposal involves considering the connecting devices as a part of the whole thing, which would then give the object integrity both structurally and conceptually. You could still use chipboard covered with plastic films printed with any species of timber or finish you desire. This project was enabled via SLS technology.
